The 100 Who Care Alliance began in 2006 when Karen Dunigan of Jackson, Michigan, designed a simple and efficient way to support local charities. She gathered 100 women who each wrote a check for $100 directly to a charity. In one hour, that group raised $10,000, and the receiving charity was able to purchase 300 new baby cribs for their organization. Today, there are over 650 chapters established around the globe using the same model to make huge impacts in local communities.
Our Clay County women’s chapter was launched in the Fall of 2020 by a group of women who desire to support the community by combining our donations to impact local not-for-profits. Men and Teens have followed suit to further support the community. Collectively, we have the ability to impact our community in ways we never before thought possible.
Each quarter, all members of the 100+ will nominate a Clay County nonprofit prior to our scheduled meeting date. Three of those nominees will be chosen at random. The nominees will be invited to attend the next meeting where they will have a chance to share their mission and how they will use any donations from the 100+. After the presentations, members will vote to determine 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awardees. Awardees will receive 50%, 30%, and 20% (respectively) of that quarter’s donation.
Since 100+ is not a 501(c)3, Impact Clay serves as our fiduciary sponsor. Members will write checks, pay cash, or make online donations to Impact Clay who, in turn, writes checks directly to the not-for-profits we specify as awardees.
